I've tried the hr@pixar.com address and only got a dumb automated reply to my inquiries. Is there any way to actually have some kind of an interaction with a real person here? I'm trying to get them some material for a character rigging/modelling/texturing position and wanted to talk to someone about what they would like to see. I realized that they're not currently hiring for these positions, but it would be nice to be able to talk to someone about if they will be likely to have any opennings in the forthcoming future.

Re: Contacting Pixar?
Sat, June 19, 2004 - 10:33 PMi would guess what they would want to see, would be just your absolute best works that would pertain to the position that you are interested in. nothing more, nothing less.
as far as getting it there, the site is pretty clear. maybe send it again with a self addressed stamped envelope with a note asking for a breif crit wheither they are interested or not.
i'd imagine that they get bazillions of stuff submitted all the time... don't give up, what ever you do.
make your stuff so good that they come to you! that'd be the perfect scenerio.
i dunno... this tribe seems really dead so i figured i'd jump in so you aren't left hangin. -

Re: Contacting Pixar?
Sat, June 19, 2004 - 10:59 PMYeah, I've got a good idea of what they'd want to see now, and pretty much have it done and plan to get to sending out my resume/portfolio/demo reel and maya files this coming week. However I'd like to actually have been able to talk to someone so I don't feel like I'm just sending all of this material into a black hole that I'll probably never be getting a response back on. (Especially as each one of these packets has become fairly costly to produce.) -

Re: Contacting Pixar?
Sat, June 19, 2004 - 11:01 PMSo I guess if I do get them any material, it will be if I can make it to SIGGRAPH this year. I was there a couple of years ago and they had people there who you could talk to who were accepting and reviewing work, so I think that would be a better bet for me. -

Re: Contacting Pixar?
Sat, June 19, 2004 - 11:18 PMsiggraph is a great place to make contacts and trade info with people. i'll probably be going this year, i've never been.
i turned down an E3 in hopes of a trade for siggraph. even though i could probably go to both. GDC is a great place to meet people in the movie industry... they are the ones giving most of the talks. -

Sat, June 19, 2004 - 11:22 PMGDC?
Oh yeah, and my school's animation department has had a program either this past semester or the previous one, working with Pixar, so I can probably find some contact information from my former advisor. Yah, yah... Thinking outloud, sorry. :) -

Re: Contacting Pixar?
Sat, June 19, 2004 - 11:30 PMthere is also www.animationmentor.com that is starting enrolement in the fall i think, the cost of the classes (amazing training aside) would be worth the direct contact and crits with the guys heading it up.
well for animators anyway. -

Re: Contacting Pixar?
Sun, June 20, 2004 - 8:44 PMOh yeah, it does indeed sound awesome. If I was shooting more towards the animation end of it myself I'd probably look into it more. Although, I am more into the whole classroom deal, the online communication thing would seem a bit wierd, but for the people you're getting contact with it would be worth it. Sounds like a great idea though. Definently shows how the world of animation seems to be expanding.
